Kolding School of Design Residency
2023
This body of work was made on a month-long residency in Kolding, Denmark, working on a TC-1 loom set up with a linen warp.
I’m interested in what happens when images are woven in unstable weaving structures, allowing areas of structural uncertainty to influence how an image is read. In contrast to mediums like painting or drawing, weavers doesn’t produce an image on a material, but rather they weave an image and material simultaneously. Therefore the image and the weave structure are inextricably linked. Based on this idea, my recent work has focused on ‘unstable images’. My aim is to create a dialogue between the content of an image and the weaving structures that constitute it; to use weaving not as a tool to create an image, but as a way to understand an image.
